Jishike (meaning “hold on to your strength” in Swahili) is a social business that was founded in an effort to help women empower themselves and fill a social need, fighting poverty with opportunity. 21 Tanzanian women have been taught to crochet and given materials by Jishike. A portion of the retail value of each purchase goes directly back to the woman that made the one-of-a-kind item in Tanzania. Earnings from Jishike has increased the women’s income up to 700% and have changed the lives of more than 80 children in the areas of healthcare, education, nutrion, and housing.
